Alan manages the Product Intelligence and Development department for KickStart, a nonprofit social enterprise headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. KickStart designs and mass-markets climate-smart irrigation technology to smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. He is responsible for technology intelligence, new technology development, and validation of sourced equipment. In his prior role at KickStart, Alan’s team co-designed affordable home products with Nairobi small-scale entrepreneurs, simultaneously training them in business skills. Prior to KickStart, Alan designed learning programmes and trained neurodiverse staff in setting up and running a business which made fashion jewellery for export from Kenya. Alan holds a CertEd in Design Technology from Shoreditch College, a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Open University and an MBA from Edith Cowen University.
