Allan Okoth is a Women Empowerment advocate possessing a strong belief that “when she rises, we all rise," and a “Mentorpreneur” who uses the wisdom gained from the BEACON INCLUSIVE startup to bring innovation and inspiration to growing entrepreneurs and organizations. The likes of international DJs, such as Avicii and Armin van Buuren, and artists like Kanye West inspired him to find purpose in life through DJing house and trance music, until 2017, when he was diagnosed with partial hearing loss. He describes that time in his life as “distressful and lonely" as he was isolated due to his condition. Not to be defined by his disability however, he developed Beacon Chat to solve some of his needs around communication and access to information. His inspiration to start Beacon Inc, a technology social enterprise that facilitates accessibility to healthcare for marginalized communities, draws from the real-life story of Alfred Weinrib, an 83-year cancer-stricken deaf man who died without knowing his diagnosis after a hospital in the U.S. failed to provide a sign language interpreter for him for 7 months while he was pursuing treatment. Beacon Chat has empowered more than 1,600 members of the deaf community to access sexual and reproductive health by using a "people-powered health approach" without the need of a sign language interpreter. Allan states, “Beacon Inc has given me fulfillment and reassurance that there is more to life in serving other people.” Allan lives in Nairobi, Kenya and enjoys hiking, interior design and reading books while studying social psychology at the famous “Google University.”
