Dr. Chloe Schwenke is an international development practitioner, author, academic, human rights activist, feminist, and ethicist who currently serves as Interim Executive Director of the Association of Writers & Writing Programs, and as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland. She has previously served as a Director of Research at the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), as a Vice President for Global Programs at Freedom House, and as a Senior Advisor on Human Rights and LGBTQ (political appointee) for the Obama Administration. An openly transgender woman with extensive international experience in developing countries, Chloe’s career has focused on advocacy, programming and research in social inclusion, gender equality, good governance, and human rights. She was Alumna of the Year at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy (2013) and the recipient of the National Center for Transgender Equality national award for public service (2013).
