SID-W has decided to postpone this event while we examine the impact, if any, on SID-W programming of the Executive Order on Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping issued by the White House on September 22, 2020. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org should you have any questions.
We are at a transformational moment in time. We are witnessing the largest civil rights movement worldwide in support of Black Lives Matter. We see the protests in support of racial justice and dismantling systems of oppression and supremacy at an unprecedented scale. Many organizations across the aid and development sector have expressed solidarity and allyship for the movement. However, as a sector, we have a race problem. The culture of corporate America is white, and this permeates into our offices as well. To move to a true understanding of the issues and build equity, as a sector we first need to acknowledge and then address systemic racism in development. This will come with self-reflection, and needs to be followed by dedicated action.
We are inviting leaders to engage in both self-reflection and objective analysis to determine actions to build equity, justice, and inclusion, and dismantle systemic racism and western white centeredness within the communities we work and serve. This sector collectively has the resources, expertise and capacity to bring about systemic change - what we need is the will beyond the intent.
Join us for a difficult, but timely, discussion to unpack systemic racism and together commit to transformational change within our industry. Curated by Jamila White (Senior Africa Representative, Mercy Corps) and Indira K. Ahluwalia (President, KAUR Strategies), this will be an interactive event that aims to create a safe space for leaders and decisions makers to think about the progress we can make collectively. This event is only open to CEOs and C-Suite staff of SID-Washington institutional members and is limited to one representative per organization. Space is limited, so sign up early.
To register, please email email@example.com. Registration will close at 4:00 PM on Monday, September 28th, and meeting details will be sent to all registered attendees at that time.
