Ms. Hongxia Liu was the Associate Vice Chancellor for Government and Community Relations at New York University (NYU) Shanghai for three years and also served as the Associate Vice-Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer of NYU Shanghai during its first two academic years. Hongxia joined NYU Shanghai from the Beijing office of the global leadership consulting firm Heidrick & Struggles as its Partner-in-Charge. At Heidrick & Struggles, she established the firm’s C-suite practice in the education, non-profit and social enterprise sectors and also expanded the firm’s practice in the legal and regulatory compliance area for industries in China.

Hongxia served earlier in executive roles at the World Justice Project, International Development Law Organisation, Law Library of Congress, American Bar Association, and Academy for Educational Development. In addition to China and the United States, she has worked and lived in Italy, and in Australia and the Republic of Georgia for over two years – both on diplomatic status for inter-governmental organisations. She also served as President of the Washington Foreign Law Society and was a Trustee of the Meridian International Center in Washington DC. She is the Vice-Chair for the Board of Advisors for the International Development Law Organisation, and serves on the Board of Directors of the International Law Institute.

Hongxia received an LLB in International Politics from Peking University and an MA in Public Policy from NYU.
