Kamissa Camara

Kamissa Camara is the sub-Saharan Africa Director at PartnersGlobal, where she oversees the implementation of donor-funded projects in security sector reform, access to justice, and peacebuilding throughout the continent, with a concentration on the Sahel. She is also a sub-Saharan Africa course coordinator at the Foreign Service Institute where she trains U.S. diplomats preparing for posting in Africa and most specifically the Sahel region. Until December 2017, Kamissa was a non-resident fellow with the Center for African Studies at Harvard University. She has over a decade of experience building government and civil society coalitions in sub-Saharan Africa to improve policy gaps in transitional justice, human rights, democracy, corruption and civil-military relations. A well-published political commentator, Ms. Camara has been a guest on multiple French and English TV programs including CNN, Voice of America, BBC Africa Focus, TRT World News, Aljazeera, France24, I24 news and The Global African. Kamissa’s political analyses have appeared in The Washington Post, Aljazeera America, Africa Research Institute, Le Monde, The Broker Online, Good Governance Africa, World Politics Review, African Arguments, Think Africa Press, the Fletcher Forum of World Affairs and UN Vision. She is also often heard on RFI, BBC, Deutshe Welle and Monocle Radio radio programs. Ms. Camara is the founder and co-chair of the Sahel Strategy Forum, an integrated policy forum which provides a platform to donors, program implementers, academics, civil society, and the private sector to promote democratic values, stronger accountability mechanisms, peace, security and development throughout the Sahel. She holds an M.A. in International Economics and Development from Université Pierre Mendès France (Grenoble, France) and a B.A. in International Relations from Université Denis Diderot (Paris, France).
