Shabnam joined SID-Washington in August 2020 as a Fall Program Associate, supporting the Membership and Operations Coordinator and the Director of Programs. Beyond SID-Washington, Shabnam is also an active member of UNA-NCA’s Sustainable Development Committee as she is Co-Chair of their Refugee Action Group dedicated to raising awareness on global refugee crises.
Shabnam graduated from George Washington University in May 2019 with a BA in International Affairs. She is currently pursuing a MA in Global Affairs at George Mason University. During her gap year, Shabnam worked for a defense contractor as an HR Assistant. Throughout her undergraduate years, she worked and interned with various non-profit organizations, including International Medical Corps as part of their Ethics and Compliance Department and Terre des Hommes Netherlands in Bangladesh where she worked with sexually exploited children in the Bangladeshi community as well as among the Rohingya refugees. Shabnam is originally half from Azerbaijan and half from Bangladesh.
