Tulika Narayan

Tulika Narayan created and leads the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Analytics practice for International Economic Growth at Abt Associates. She is an agriculture and development economist who carries out research to inform development policy and project implementation.

Narayan’s research involves economic analysis to support agricultural development, climate change, low-emissions development and environmental policy, as well as evaluation of international development projects.

She has worked in Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique, Uganda, Vietnam, India, and Indonesia. In these countries she has partnered with a diverse team of stakeholders and held workshops and communication events to take results from rigorous analyses to policy action.

Narayan, for example, led the development of a conceptual framework to assess the impact of aflatoxins – a naturally occurring cancer-causing toxin – which was adopted by the Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa. She also serves as the Research Director for evaluating AgResults, a $118 million dollar innovative mechanism for achieving agriculture development outcomes through results based prizes.

Prior to joining Abt in 2002, Narayan was a consultant for the World Bank where she conducted analysis to inform power sector reforms and poverty assessments.

Narayan also has been a core volunteer with the Association for India’s Development since 1995, which is a volunteer organization that raises awareness on development issues, raises funds in the U.S. and funds development projects in India.

Narayan holds a Ph.D. in Agriculture and Natural Resource Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, a Masters in economics from the Delhi School of Economics in India, and a Bachelors in economics from the University of Delhi in India.
